Moving Your Libra to Another Grain Cart
Moving a Libra to a new cart is easy, but the old cart's numbers do not come with it. Most 'it reads double' and 'way off' calls after a move come from carrying the old numbers over.

1. Check the plug
- A plastic 4-pin plug plugs straight into the Libra.
- A metal 5-pin Weigh-Tronix plug needs the 5-pin adapter.
- Brent, Unverferth, Parker, Killbros and Orthman carts with the yellow Ezi-Mate box need the Ezi-Mate home-run cable.
- Power it with the Libra 12V cord or its battery. Never use another indicator's power cord - a GT460 cord's extra pins can damage the box.
2. Enter starting numbers - not the old cart's
In the app's Device tab, tap the blue calibration number:
- Sensitivity: 0.40 mV/V.
- Rated capacity: in the Libra app this is really a calibration number, not how much the cart can hold - so don't add up the weigh bar ratings. If the cart had a scale head, carry its calibration number over. Otherwise use the recommended number for the cart and weigh bar brand:
- Avery Weigh-Tronix 3-point: 27,680 with no resistor in the junction box, 36,900 with one.
- Digi-Star 3-point: usually 24,000. Older Kinze carts with two compression cells and a hitch bar: 48,000.
- 5-point carts: 40,000 is common.
- Calibration factor: 1.000.
Tap Next and Save, then Zero Scale with the cart empty. More on finding load cell ratings.
3. Body-weight check
Tare the display, then stand on each weigh bar in turn (hitch, each side, each axle) and note what it reads.
- They agree and are about right: go on and calibrate.
- They agree but read about half: double the rated capacity you entered.
- They don't agree: check the wiring and that the bars face the right way up before anything else.
4. Calibrate
Weigh a full load on a certified scale and enter that weight with the Libra's reading - see calibration. A good calibration factor ends up close to 1.000. If it wants something far from that, stop: something on the cart is wrong.
Rather skip all this? Tell us the cart's make and model and we will set the box up before it ships, with the numbers on a sticker.
